2022 Bundaberg Cup Results

That’s a wrap for the 2022 Bundaberg Cup! After bad weather threatened all week to place a dampener on the weekend, the sun came out and Bundaberg showed us what a fantastic summer weekend in the Rum City really looks like.

The 6th annual Bundaberg Cup, hosted in its namesake location, has drawn just under 60 teams to the region including Junior, Social, and Opens divisions – promising to deliver a range of top-shelf viewing for its spectators.

The semi-finals proved to be a hub of excitement with Men’s and Mixed Social teams both heading to nail-biting drop-offs.

The Galaxy vs Bulldogs Men’s social semi-final saw the first two minutes of drop-off, resulting in a 2 all draw, forcing further overtime. Once the teams had moved to 3 players, the Bulldogs took home the 6-5 win. This game drew one of the biggest crowds of the series, and the tension at side-of-field could be cut with a knife!

QTF Brand Ambassador, Scott Prince, was a central feature in another harrowing competition between the Coolum Blue Fins and Jackhammers which made it to 3 on 3 in drop offs. The Blue Fins came away victorious winning 6–5 for the Mixed Social division semi-final.

The under 14 Boys Grand Final between Western Rebels and Rockhampton Redbacks truly showcased the emerging talent that is coming through the ranks with the Rebels scoring a winning try in the final two minutes of the game!

Scott Prince Bundaberg 2022

As always, the Rockhampton Redbacks dominated the competition, bringing an astounding eight (8) teams to the tournament. The formidable Affiliate were proudly represented in six (6) Grand Finals, taking home three (3) champion trophies including the coveted Men’s Open division.

This competition is particularly unique to Queensland, offering non-Affiliated, social games and a cash prize pool of $20,000. None of which would be capable without the support of Bundaberg Regional Council and Tourism and Events Queensland. We thank you for your ongoing support of our sport.

Queensland Touch Football cannot wait to bring an even bigger and better competition to the beautiful Bundaberg region next year, Saturday 4 February – Sunday, 5 February 2023!
